Betarq Group will carry out the Construction Management of the new headquarters of Cateb
The proposal submitted under the motto “BASTIDA” resolves in a more balanced way the requirements set out in the competition (especially those related to adaptation to purpose, science and technology, functionality, architectural quality, sustainability, and economy). It achieves a fluid connection between the first two floors, designed to enhance the visibility of the profession to the public.
The intermediate floors of the building offer great spatial versatility, which will allow the building to adapt—without major changes or significant costs—to new functionalities and future expectations of the profession.
Finally, it is considered highly positive that the upper floors propose a public use reserved for members, recovering the El Llagost terrace and generating new outdoor spaces on the sixth floor.
Passive measures are planned, enabling the creation of a building resilient to the climate change currently affecting the city:
-
The proposal includes a mobile shading structure integrated into the façade design (called the second skin, the “Bastida”), which addresses both bioclimatic aspects and façade aesthetics using the same architectural elements.
-
The bioclimatic atrium is designed in a rational way, adapted to the existing interior courtyard and maximizing passive strategies such as shading and motorized window openings, natural ventilation, and night free-cooling.
-
Emphasis is placed on the reuse and recycling of existing elements, creating a coherent rehabilitation project and committing to avoiding rebuilding demolished elements while adapting to those already constructed.
