Philosophy
Betarq Group is an architectural and technical architecture practice based in Barcelona, founded in 2005 by Julio López Fernández, Ramon Cisa Segalés and Sergi Barquet Pons. The firm specializes in architectural design, construction management, execution management and integrated project management within the building sector.
The studio has solid experience in landmark buildings, both public and private, across a wide range of uses. Each project is approached without compromise, with the conviction that in the practice of designing and managing architecture there is no greater specialization than passion and professionalism. Betarq Group is firmly committed to sustainability, innovation, rehabilitation, continuous learning and the incorporation of new technological tools.
Betarq is, above all, a committed and professional team that approaches architecture with rigor and enthusiasm. The firm strongly believes in gender equality and generational diversity as essential values for continued growth and for contributing meaningful value to the sector. The team has received several awards and recognitions, which further reinforce its motivation and future vision.
Betarq has been involved in a number of high-profile projects and construction management commissions, including the Spotify Camp Nou, the renovation of the Hotel Juan Carlos I, the Biblioteca Pública del Estado en Barcelona, the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Sant Boi, the Centre de Medicina Comparada a Can Ruti, and the LCI Barcelona design school.
The firm has also worked on landmark buildings such as the first multi-family residential building in Spain constructed with a light timber frame system, as well as the first office building made entirely of wood. Betarq has extensive experience in large-scale residential developments promoted by Culmia, AQ Acentor, Altamira and Criteria, as well as for public entities such as Impsol.
Its portfolio also includes projects of other uses, such as the Tanatori de Sants, the rehabilitation and extension of the Castell de Cap Roig, and cultural facilities like La Lira de Sant Andreu and the Centre Sociocultural d’Alella. The firm has also been involved in office buildings such as the Campus Roche Diagnòstics, the Wittywood building, and the industrial warehouse and offices for Riera Nadeu; heritage rehabilitation projects such as the renovation of Casa Alesan in Barcelona; sports facilities like the Club Natació Sabadell; and several hotels, including Hotel Diagonal, The Wittmore and the aforementioned Hotel Juan Carlos I.
In the public sector, notable projects include La Fàbrica del Sol —a benchmark in sustainability—, the business incubator at the Estadi Olímpic, several pavilions at the Zoo de Barcelona, municipal car parks, and the renovation project of l’Estació del Nord.
