Betarq, together with Nitidus Arquitectes, was awarded in 2010 the project and construction management of the new State Public Library in Barcelona, promoted by the Ministry of Culture.
This library, the largest in Spain, will be built on the grounds adjacent to the Estació de França in Barcelona and will become one of the most singular works to be carried out in the city in the coming years. Its construction is a direct consequence of the failed implementation of the library at the Mercat del Born and has had significant media coverage.
The project, configured in three bodies of different heights and 180 metres in length, will have an approximate surface area of 21,500 m². It is currently in the approval and tendering phase.
The Government has approved the public contract for the construction of the State Public Library in Barcelona. Finally, the new library will become a reality.
The budget amounts to 82.7 million euros and the investment will be distributed across six phases between 2025 and 2030.
